Following their trip to Washington last weekend, Capital FC Atletico is now gearing up for crucial matches in the coming weeks, with the Northwest League title still within their grasp and playoffs on the line.

The team's outing in Washington evoked mixed emotions as they returned with a split result. They secured a blowout 3-0 victory against Oly Town FC (4-3-2) but unfortunately fell short in a closely contested match against Ballard FC (8-1-1), the current first-place team in the USL 2 Northwest Division Standings.

During the intense clash against Ballard FC, Atletico displayed their prowess in the first half, holding off their opponents and securing a 0-1 lead with a well-executed goal by midfielder Osvaldo Santana in the 12’. Building on their momentum, Atletico extended their advantage in the second half when midfielder Yutaro Tsukada found the back of the net in the 55’, increasing their lead to 0-2.

However, Atletico was unable to hold their composure as the match reached its closing stages. Ballard FC mounted a remarkable comeback, scoring three consecutive goals and snatching the victory from Atletico.

Nevertheless, Atletico swiftly regrouped and showcased their resilience in their subsequent match against Oly Town FC on Sunday. During this match, Atletico delivered a resounding blowout win, reminding fans of their potential and determination for the upcoming USL 2 playoffs. The game witnessed another impressive goal by midfield powerhouse Osvaldo Santana and two additional goals from Fumiya Shiraishi to secure the commanding lead.

With their sights set on redemption and their playoff hopes still alive, Atletico now faces crucial rematches against Oly Town FC this Sunday and Ballard FC on Wednesday, which will play a pivotal role in determining their standing in the Northwest Division.

Atletico head coach Joe Wentworth recognizes the significance of these encounters, emphasizing the opportunity for redemption and the chance to showcase the team's growth and resilience.

"We have a big week ahead of us," said Wentworth. "The experience gained from last weekend's matches prove that we have some tuning up to do but also have what it takes to keep moving forward this season. "

While the recent loss presents a setback, Atletico's hopes of securing the league title remain alive. Their chances hinge not only on their performance but also on the results of their competitors in the coming weeks. If Ballard, the current league leader, drops points and Atletico can finish the season with three consecutive wins, they could emerge as champions of the USL League Two NW Division for the third consecutive season.

As the Capital FC USL 2 season nears its conclusion, Atletico finds themselves at a critical juncture. The recent loss has only fueled their determination to bounce back and secure a playoff spot. With the league title still within reach, Atletico must maintain focus, capitalize on opportunities, and extend their winning streak.

Atletico's first rematch will occur on Sunday, July 9, at 2 PM against Oly Town FC at McCulloch Stadium in Salem. Following that game, they will face the league's top-ranked team, Ballard FC, at McCulloch Stadium on Wednesday, July 12th, at 7 PM while closing out the regular season Sunday, July 16th at 2PM against Lane United FC.

The upcoming matches hold immense importance, potentially shaping the team's destiny. Capital FC fans can anticipate fierce games at home this week as Atletico this week leaves no stone unturned in the pursuit of the Northwest League title.
