PORTLAND, Ore. – A rainy June evening led CFC Atletico and PDX FC to their second and final meeting of the 2022 season. The squads previously met May 25th in Salem with a heart wrenching 1-0 PDX FC victory.

CFC entered the match featuring some new, and old, U23 faces. New to the starting lineup was 2021 returnees, Marco Afonso, Marios Andreou, and David Brog, alongside newcomer Sebastian Schacht. After a week of training, the team was eager to get back on the pitch and compete.

Starting in a 4-3-3, CFC pressured PDX FC quickly, gaining possession and pressing high. However, a misstep in the backline gave PDX FC a chance where they were able to finish in the box and go up 0-1. PDX FC’s goal fueled the team to continue to press and move the ball forward. Holding possession for nearly 90% of the first half, CFC was unable to find the back of the net.

A late counter by PDX FC gave them another opportunity to score, to which they capitalized on to go up 0-2 at the half.

CFC switched up their formation at the half to put more offensive pressure on the ball. The changeup worked.

In the 59’, Marco Afonso earned a PK to bring the lads up to a 1-2 score. The momentum of the game remained within Atletico’s control, again holding possession, pressing for the equalizer. Subs came in the 65’ bringing on the fresh legs of Gabriel Silva and Antonio Gomez to the midfield and defensive line.

The team's chemistry and intensity grew and they continued to produce chance after chance. It wasn’t until the 85’ that Gabriel Silva was able to push past the defense and bring the equalizer.

The equalizing goal brought a wave of energy over the team as Nate Sherwood and Anthony Godinez entered the match looking for the W. Just before stoppage time, CFC was able to connect and sent a ball flying into the back of the net which was quickly whistled out due to a questionable offsides call.

Pressure continued to build for both teams until the final whistle ended the match in a 2-2 draw led by a second half Atletico comeback.

CFC Atletico will be back at home Sunday, June 5th, to take on OVF Alliance U23 of Albany, Oregon. Tickets are on sale now here.
