SALEM, Ore. -- Two late stoppage time goals bring a 3-0 Friday night victory to conclude the Timbers U23 regular season with a stunning 10-1-1 record.

Friday, June 16, was the final home match of the 2021 regular season where the Timbers U23 completed a perfect 4-0 record against Lane United FC. A  2-1 victory over PDX FC on June 11 secured the squads spot in the 2021 USL League Two Playoffs. Details regarding the teams upcoming playoff schedule can be found here.

Having won the previous three matches against Lane United FC, the Timbers U23 were ready to complete the perfect record and put pressure on early in the match. The squad held possession for the majority of the match.

After multiple corners and shots on goal, Koa Santos was able to connect with Levi Johnson in the 39’ to go up 1-0. The goal happened thanks to a corner that got booted out of the box that was then secured by Koa and sent over everyone for Levi to flick in.

The team stayed up 1-0 at the half.

Pressure from Lane increased in the second half but the backline alongside Goalkeeper Trevor Wilson were able to clear any potential trouble. In the 70’, Wilson produced two huge back to back saves to keep the boys up.

At the 90’ mark, the referee allowed a few minutes of stoppage time where the team ended up securing two more goals thanks to a PK and a beautiful run. A late foul in the box gave Marco Afonso a PK - securing his final goal of the regular season. A minute later, a run up the middle by Afonos and Sam Malloch put away the game rewarding Afonso his eighth assist of the season and giving Malloch his first goal of the season.

The Timbers will hit the road and head to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Western Conference Finals, Friday, July 23.
