EUGENE, Ore. -- The Timbers U23 squad remains #1 in the USL League Two Northwest Division with a fierce 4-2 W over Lane United FC on July 2nd.

Pushing towards the last leg of the season while traveling without a trainer brought some challenges to the squad as they faced off against Lane United FC for the third time this season.

An early PK by Lane United FC brought the team down 0-1 in the 2'. However, the team overcame to bounce back with two immediate unanswered goals - a 21' goal by Koa Santos off the foot of Marco Afonso and a 36' goal by Ivan Mykhailenko thanks to a corner from Santos.

The squad went up 2-1 at halftime and were eager to keep pushing.

David Brog showed that readiness and made his mark in the 47' snagging a goal to go up 3-1 within 2' of the second half kickoff. Broadhead made several rotations throughout the final 45', getting every rostered man on the pitch.

"To score three unanswered goals and have a comeback like that is special for the group," stated Head Coach, Matt Broadhead.

In the 80', Lane United FC was able to sneak one in past goalkeeper, Trevor Wilson and make it a 3-2. Within 120 seconds, Tim Bielic responds making is 4-2, recording his first goal of the 2021 season.

Full time ended in a 4-2 Timbers U23 win, leading the team to an overall 7-1-1 record.

The squad will take the 4th of July weekend off and hit the road again for their final matchups of the regular season starting July 9 against OVF Alliance.

The team will be back home July 11 to face PDX FC for the final time. Tickets for the match can be found here.
