SALEM, Ore. – Dutch Bros Coffee, the country’s largest privately held drive-thru coffee company, and the Portland Timbers U23 team are excited to announce the Dutch Bros Salem franchise will be the title sponsor for the team’s 2020 United Soccer League (USL) season.

As part of the sponsorship, Dutch Bros logos will appear on warm-up tops, as well as home and away jerseys. Dutch Bros will also be the exclusive coffee, cold brew and energy drink for the team.

“We're honored to have the support of Dutch Bros Salem as we move into our 4th season in Salem,” stated Timbers U23 Executive Director, Collin Box. “Not only do we share synergy and alignment within the Timbers organization, but more importantly we both value enriching and giving back to our local community. We are extremely grateful to have a community champion as our title sponsor.”

The local sponsorship coincides with the multiyear sponsorship Dutch Bros Coffee has with the Portland Timbers. The Timbers U23 team boasts the second-most Major League Soccer-drafted Path2Pro players.

“As a company, Dutch Bros is always looking for new opportunities to give back to, and be involved in, the communities we serve,” Salem-area franchisee Aaron Eastman said. “The Timbers U23 team provides a platform for collegiate and youth soccer players in our region, and we couldn’t be happier to support them with this sponsorship.”

The 2020 USL season will begin on May 6.

Founded Nov. 11, 2008, the Portland Timbers U23 are an amateur team affiliated with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer and serve as a development platform for the club’s first team and USL side, T2. The team consists of standout players from collegiate and youth programs from Oregon, the Northwest and throughout the country, and competes in United Soccer League (USL), League Two, formerly the Premier Development League. Since their founding, five Timbers U23 players have signed with the first team, including goalkeeper Jake Gleeson, while T2 features former Timbers U23 standout forward and 2015 USL Rookie of the Year Kharlton Belmar. The Timbers U23 assembled an historic campaign in 2010, posting a perfect 16-0-0 record during the regular season on their way to becoming the first undefeated champion in PDL history.

The team moved to Salem in 2017 as the MLS Club handed over day-to-day operations of the team to Capital FC Timbers. Founded in 1993, the Capital FC Timbers are a member club of the Portland Timbers Alliance, which provides elite local youth clubs with coaching resources to better develop aspiring players. The youth club has had 154 alumni move on to play at the collegiate level, while 27 standouts have been selected to join the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC Academy systems.
