FIVE TIMBERS U23 SELECTED IN 2020 MLS SUPERDRAFT, ONE MORE SIGNS TO USL LEAGUE ONE

SALEM, Ore. -- A total of six Timbers U23 alum were recognized by Pro Clubs this week during the MLS SuperDraft. Five players were drafted by various MLS teams and one signed to a USL League One squad.

The first two rounds of the MLS SuperDraft took place Thursday, January 9th, where four former Timbers U23 players were drafted : 

- Jonathan Jimenez (Defender) - Chicago Fire FC

- Rey Ortiz (Forward) - FC Cincinnati

- Remi Prieur (Goalkeeper) - Columbus Crew FC

- Timo Mehlich (Midfielder) - Seattle Sounders FC

 Jimenez participated in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons while Ortiz has    been a member of the squad since 2017. Prieur and Mehlich played throughout the 2019 season.

The third round of the SuperDraft took place Tuesday, January 13th, where one alumni was drafted and one signed with a USL League 1 squad  :

- Ryo Shimazaki (Defender) - Columbus Crew FC

 - Gio Magana-Rivera (Midfielder) - FC Tucson, USL League One 

Shimazaki was a defender during the 2018 season while Magana-Rivera has been with the club since 2017, competing in the last three seasons. 

With a total of 6 players drafted and/or signed, the Timbers U23 held the second-most players drafted of all League Two clubs. 

The Timbers U23 season will kickoff in May with schedules being released shortly.
