Salem, Ore. -- The Timbers U23 announced today the hiring of new head coach, Matt Broadhead. Broadhead comes to the U23 squad with a wealth of knowledge across all levels of soccer, looking to provide guidance for players to continue on their #Path2Pro.

“I'm looking forward to being in USL League 2 to work with players who are aspiring professionals and help them navigate the path of what it takes to become a professional soccer player,” said Broadhead. “I'm most looking forward to being in Salem and being a part of the strong soccer culture that has already been established for decades.”

In addition to his club responsibilities at United PDX, Broadhead looks to ensure that players coming in develop over their time here with the U23’s. He wants the team to understand the importance their role plays as “positive ambassadors” in the next generation of young soccer players.

“This team is a vehicle that is vital in giving aspiring pros an opportunity to apply their trade during the summer months and continue to make a name for themselves. Fans can expect to see a team that is prepared to play different ways depending on the luxuries we have or the challenges we face on the day.”

“We’re excited to have an experienced coach like Matt join the team this year and build on the growth of the program in Salem,” says Timbers U23 Director Collin Box. “We feel Matt shares our values and vision for the team and are excited to have him at the helm for the 2020 campaign.”

Season tickets, tryout dates, and Broadhead's coaching staff will be released shortly. Keep up with all things U23 by following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
